Offline and FAQ's...

The Device has various ‘states’ of operation as displayed by colours onscreen. Green means it’s awake, reporting it’s position, ignition is on, the vehicle is moving. Red means it’s awake and reporting, ignition is off. Yellow means awake, ignition on, vehicle is idling. However, there’s another, very necessary, state; Offline then it’s display is grey and the device can’t be communicated with until it comes Online again.

A Device goes Offline for several reasons, the most common is that it’s not been used for a few hours so it deliberately goes to sleep to save battery power, save communication costs and to reset. It might also be out of mobile phone coverage, or it might have developed a technical fault. To identify which situation we are in, please use this step-by-step checklist

  • ‘’My tracker is Offline’’. This is our most common complaint, however, a device showing ‘’Offline’’ is most likely asleep as programmed. As soon as the vehicle ignition is switched on or the vehicle is moved, it will wake up and start reporting. This is all perfectly normal, so if you start the engine it should log in as normal. If no one is with the vehicle and it can’t be started, that’s fine, the device will wake up correctly when it’s moved or ignition is switch on. It’s just resting.

  • ‘’It’s still Offline’’ Ok, this also happens occasionally. Firstly, ‘’has it been used in the last few hours – if it hasn’t been used for a while, run the engine for a couple of minutes, it should login and start reporting, if it still doesn’t log in, please think, ‘’Is it undercover and might have lost its communications?’’ If this is the case, move it outside and wait a couple of minutes with the engine running, it should login and start reporting correctly.

  • ‘’It still hasn’t logged in and the engine is running’’. On the web browser, check the mobile phone signal indicator, if this signal is strong, we will need to send a technician to the vehicle for an inspection. If the signal is weak or non-existent, the Offline problem is more likely a mobile phone coverage issue and that’s not something we can do anything about. When it returns to an area of coverage, it will log in again as normal. If it doesn’t, it will need a technician visit.
